An elderly New York woman has lost about $310,000 to a caller who pretended to work for her bank’s fraud department.

The NYPD says it is looking for Luis Irahera, 34, in connection with the grand larceny on Staten Island, reports SILive.

Police say the woman got a call around noon on Friday, August 14th, from someone who claimed to be with Santander Bank’s fraud department.

The caller allegedly told her that her bank account had been compromised.

She was then told to wire $310,000 to a Bank of America account.

The woman later realized it was a scam, and Santander canceled another attempted wire transfer of $447,200, according to police.

The incident happened near Herrick Avenue and Gaynor Street in the Charleston neighborhood.

Police describe Irahera as 5 feet, 4 inches tall and about 200 pounds, with short black hair, brown eyes, a black beard and tattoos on his right forearm and left wrist.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).

In a separate bank impersonation case, police are also on the hunt for Breider Iriarte Campomar, a man accused of posing as a Chase Bank employee in a scam that cost a grocery store worker tens of thousands of dollars. Campomar failed to show up for court after a Cook County judge released him under pretrial conditions.
