This Thursday, the Parliament of Greece approved a bill establishing a 10% levy on capital gains derived from crypto-asset transfers, lowering the initial 15% proposal debated in mid-year. The new regulation completely exempts retail investors whose cumulative net returns do not exceed 500 euros per year from tax payments.
The measure provides the country with its first formal tax framework for digital assets and standardizes cost calculations using the average acquisition price, while classifying returns from staking and crypto lending under a 15% rate categorized as interest. In addition, the regulation allows offsetting tax losses over a five-year period.
The Greek Ministry of Finance will release detailed guidelines on auditing, reporting, and financial information exchange in the coming weeks, alongside opening a twelve-month voluntary disclosure window for past gains.
