As the Web3 industry develops alongside artificial intelligence and traditional finance, companies are increasingly looking for professionals who combine technical expertise with broader business and regulatory knowledge. The shift is creating new career opportunities while changing the skills employers prioritize.
Speaking at Web3 Career Connect, an official community event of Hong Kong FinTech Week x StartmeupHK 2026, KuCoin’s Head of Talent Acquisition, Karina Li, discussed how these developments are reshaping recruitment, professional development and long-term career prospects in the digital asset industry.
During a panel titled “Inside Web3: Building Businesses, Teams & Careers,” Li explained that the industry’s evolving requirements extend beyond blockchain and cryptocurrency expertise. Companies are increasingly seeking professionals with experience in traditional financial disciplines, particularly risk management, regulatory compliance and corporate governance.
She also addressed the growing influence of AI on Web3 employment, noting that the integration of the two technologies is changing job requirements and creating opportunities for candidates from a wider range of professional backgrounds.
“Building services that users can trust requires sustained investment in people,” Karina said. “Professional depth and continuous learning help young talent contribute as the industry evolves.”
Beyond recruitment trends, Li emphasized the importance of structured professional development, particularly for graduates entering the industry. She highlighted how mentorship, regular feedback and exposure to practical responsibilities can help early-career professionals develop independent judgment and take greater ownership of their work.
In a separate presentation, “How to Make the Right Career Choices in the Crypto Era,” Li outlined considerations for university students and recent graduates evaluating potential careers in Web3.
Rather than focusing solely on emerging technologies or short-term opportunities, she encouraged participants to examine an industry’s long-term demand, a company’s business fundamentals and the potential to acquire skills that remain valuable across different roles.
Li also recommended prioritizing workplaces that offer access to experienced colleagues, meaningful responsibilities and opportunities for professional growth. For those beginning their careers, she suggested developing expertise in a specific discipline before pursuing broader cross-functional experience.
Internships and hands-on projects, she added, can provide opportunities to identify individual strengths and gain practical exposure to the industry.
The discussions at Hong Kong FinTech Week reflected KuCoin’s emphasis on professional development and continuous learning as the digital asset sector’s workforce requirements evolve.
