In a report published today, JPMorgan Asset Management made a bold prediction: Bitcoin will outperform gold and US stocks over the next decade. This bullish projection from a global banking giant further legitimizes Bitcoin as a strong investment alternative to traditional safe-haven assets.
Bitcoin gaining edge over rivals, JPMorgan
According to the new report, JPMorgan forecasts Bitcoin to outperform gold, US stocks, and bonds with 10% annualized returns over the next 10 to 15 years. The bank expects BTC to beat gold and stocks over the long term, giving investors new confidence in the cryptocurrency.
Despite Bitcoin ’s high volatility, the institution expects BTC to deliver a 10% annual compound return over the next 10 to 15 years, outperforming real estate, gold, and US stocks.
In its 2027 Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions report today, October 20, JPMorgan predicts Bitcoin’s compound annual return at 10%. The report also estimates an arithmetic return of 20.9% and an annualized volatility of 55%.
The forecast outlook places Bitcoin ahead of many traditional investments in terms of compound annual return. The bank anticipates US large-cap stocks to return 7.5% yearly. It also expects gold to deliver a 5.5% annual return while projecting U.S. real estate investment trusts (REITs) to return 8.2% annually.
These projections suggest JPMorgan sees more robust long-term return potential in Bitcoin than in the other major asset classes mentioned above.
Despite the positive outlook, the bank sees higher volatility in Bitcoin, estimating BTC’s annualized volatility at 55% versus 17.2% for gold. This provides Bitcoin with opportunities for massive gains, but also substantial losses.
Hougan lauds JPMorgan’s BTC prediction
This is the first time that JPMorgan has included Bitcoin in its long-term return forecast in the 31-year history of its annual report. This shows a change of heart after years of criticism from the bank’s CEO.
Matt Hougan, Bitwise CIO, has celebrated JPMorgan’s Bitcoin forecast, terming it another milestone in the asset’s acceptance.
The development suggests that Bitcoin is becoming an important asset that JPMorgan doesn’t want to ignore. This shift highlights a wider change in attitude on Wall Street, including from JPMorgan’s CEO, Jamie Dimon , who has historically been skeptical of Bitcoin.
