Brothers Forced Victim to Transfer His Crypto Funds

During the robbery, Isiah Garcia forced the father to log into his cryptocurrency accounts and transfer the assets to an address provided by Raymond Garcia.

The attackers were attempting to steal approximately $8 million in digital assets and kept the victims under threat while trying to access the funds.

They later discovered that the father held additional cryptocurrency in a hardware wallet , resembling a hard drive, stored at a cabin approximately three hours away.

Investigators used a receipt from the fast-food chain Wendy’s as one of the clues that helped locate the brothers.

They also obtained security footage showing Raymond Garcia renting a motel room in Roseville, Minnesota, and tracked a rental car used during their travels.

The evidence led investigators to the brothers’ home in Waller, Texas , where they were able to locate them.

Christopher D. Dotson, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Minneapolis field office, described the attack as a targeted act of violence against the victims.

He said Raymond and Isiah Garcia broke into a home, abducted a victim, and terrorized a family at gunpoint for hours.

Federal prosecutors confirmed the sentences after the brothers admitted responsibility for the robbery. The penalties amounted to 180 months for Raymond Garcia and 186 months for Isiah Garcia .
