In a matter of weeks, Deutsche Bank, Germany’s largest bank, will roll out its first digital asset custody service. Data shared earlier today revealed that the bank aims to tap growth in the digital economy by launching a crypto custody platform in the coming weeks.
Offer direct crypto custody service for its institutional clients
According to the report, the institution will soon introduce a digital asset custody service. The new service will allow institutional and corporate clients to securely hold and transfer Bitcoin and Ethereum through Deutsche Bank, following regulatory approval.
According to the report, the bank’s phased rollout will at first support custody of top crypto assets, including Bitcoin and Ether, before broadening the service to include offerings that enable customers to move money into and out of major stablecoins and other leading cryptocurrencies.
Deutsche Bank also plans to allow clients to access tokenized assets, including digital bonds, equities, and many others, as per the announcement
Impact of MiCA regulation on EU financial markets
The recent European Union’s move to bring crypto assets into the mainstream institutional framework through groundbreaking MiCA regulation has had profound impacts on the wider capital market. For example, the legislation has boosted market integrity. The entry of major financial institutions into the cryptocurrency market has been rising significantly; this is just one of the key impacts. This shows a major shift, as several major European institutions want to hold crypto assets mostly offered by specialized crypto players.
Now, leading German bank Deutsche Bank is building its own infrastructure. In the next few weeks, its corporate customers will be able to trade Bitcoin and Ethereum directly through its core banking platform, without relying on third-party professional crypto platforms. This will substantially lower the barrier for institutional clients to participate in crypto trading, further fueling interest in Germany’s local crypto market.
After the crypto launch in Germany, Deutsche Bank intends to expand the custody platform into Asia’s financial hubs next year, the report revealed. This clearly shows that traditional banks are no longer bystanders. They are beginning to manage crypto assets for institutions themselves.
