Gate has introduced a Proof of Security (PoSEC) framework that publicly discloses how its assets are divided between cold storage and hot wallets. Based on a November 4 snapshot, 88.26% of Gate’s assets were in cold storage and 11.74% in hot wallets. The crypto exchange reported a 104.58% cold storage coverage ratio , meaning cold assets alone exceeded total user assets under its methodology.
Gate defines cold storage as assets not used for daily deposits and withdrawals, held offline or with an independent custodian, and protected by multi-party authorization. The platform says this structure is designed so user assets remain covered even if all hot wallet assets were lost. Its proof-of-reserves framework separately shows total platform assets at 118.49% of user liabilities as of October 18.
The disclosure adds a storage-risk metric alongside traditional proof of reserves, but the current PoSEC snapshot is still undergoing independent third-party verification. Gate also notes that cold-storage and reserve percentages come from different snapshots, so price movements and fund flows between dates are not reflected. The next point to watch is publication of the external audit confirming the reported coverage calculation and asset classifications.
