Bitcoin BTC is back in the green on Wednesday after a poor start to the week.

The leading cryptocurrency is trading above $77,000 as investors monitor a critical support level that could determine whether the cryptocurrency extends its recent decline.

The largest cryptocurrency is hovering just above its 200-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) at $76,466, a technical level that has become increasingly important as bearish momentum persists.

Although Bitcoin has managed to defend this support so far, its inability to reclaim shorter-term moving averages suggests that sellers continue to dominate the market.

A sustained break below the 200-day EMA could strengthen the bearish outlook and expose BTC to another round of selling.

Bitcoin defends the critical support at $76,466

Bitcoin’s technical outlook remains fragile as the cryptocurrency struggles to establish a meaningful recovery.

However, the leading cryptocurrency has defended the 200-day EMA at $76,466, leaving room for further rally before this important support comes under renewed pressure.

The 200-day EMA is widely monitored by traders because it helps identify the direction of an asset’s longer-term price trend.

When Bitcoin trades above this indicator, it can suggest that the broader bullish structure remains intact. A sustained move below it, however, may indicate that selling pressure is becoming more entrenched.

For now, buyers are attempting to push Bitcoin past the 1-hour Transactional Liquidity (TLQ) at $78,761.

Thanks to the latest rally, Bitcoin has surged past its 100-day EMA at $77,770, which represents the first significant resistance level on the upside.

The 50-day EMA at $79,997 presents another obstacle, reinforcing the importance of the psychological $80,000 level.

Until BTC reclaims the 50-day EMA, any short-term rebound could encounter renewed selling pressure.

Momentum indicators suggest that Bitcoin’s decline may be losing some intensity, although there is still insufficient evidence of a sustained bullish reversal.

The daily Relative Strength Index (RSI) is hovering around 40, placing it close to the neutral threshold of 50.

This reading indicates that bearish momentum remains dominant, but it also suggests that selling pressure may be approaching an exhausted phase.

Meanwhile, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator remains below its neutral line.

Its negative reading suggests that bearish momentum continues to influence Bitcoin’s price action despite signs of stabilization near the 200-day EMA.

A more convincing recovery would require improving momentum readings alongside a sustained move above nearby resistance levels.

BTC faces resistance at $78,760 and $80,000

If Bitcoin manages to hold above $77,770, buyers could attempt another recovery toward the TLQ at $78,760.

A decisive break above this level would be an encouraging development, suggesting that short-term selling pressure is beginning to ease.

The next major hurdle would emerge around $79,997, where the 50-day EMA closely aligns with the psychologically important $80,000 mark.

This area could attract additional selling interest from traders looking to exit positions during a recovery.

A sustained move above $80,000 would improve Bitcoin’s short-term technical outlook and potentially open the door to a broader rebound.

Beyond that level, the next significant resistance sits near $85,000, a horizontal barrier that could prove difficult to overcome without stronger buying momentum.

However, Bitcoin would first need to reclaim its shorter-term moving averages before a move toward $85,000 becomes a more credible scenario.

However, failure to close above the 100-day EMA at $77,770 could see the bulls forced to defend the 200-day EMA at $76,466.

A decisive daily close below this level would weaken the existing support structure and increase the likelihood of additional selling pressure.
